- Adaptation of Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" set in rural Australia in the 1920's. Jack Dickens and his niece Sally run the family farm to support brother-in-law Alexander as a (supposedly brilliant) literary critic in London. Action begins when Alexander returns with his beautiful young wife Deborah, revealing himself as an arrogant failure and wanting to sell the farm out from under Jack. Blakemore introduces themes about Australia's separation from England, as well as expanding the pacifist and ecological philosophies espoused by the local Doctor Max Askey.

- A flat dweller, whose business requires him to stay in the city, is possessed of a great love of the country. For this reason he equips his flat with all the chief means of joy to those who live in the rural districts. At his waking hour in the morning he requires his servant to call him by imitating a rooster. He then arises, and after dressing goes to the bathroom where he catches fish which his servant has placed in the tub for him. After his angling he dives into the tub and enjoys a swim. His drawing room is used for a garden, where he has numerous species of plants and shrubs. Here he entertains his friends at picnic parties, where they sit upon the earth-covered floor and have little trouble to imagine they are actually in the woods. After the garden lunch he shows them his improvised farm and hunting grounds. His servant acts as a hound and tracks a rabbit from one room to another, while the original farmer and his friends follow with guns and finally make a successful capture.
- At the invitation of their Uncle Henry, Arthur Martin and his wife, fresh from the farm, arrive in town for a visit, and for the first time get a taste of city life. Realizations are often quite different from anticipations. At a reception given in their honor, they are shocked at the stories that are told, and the card games prove a frightful bore. The climax is reached when Arthur observes a young stranger paying too close attention to Mrs. Martin. They soon take their leave and hasten back to the farm.

Hazing: The country girl and her roommate are taken out in the dead of night and made to take college secret society oath before a grinning skeleton. Rivals: The country girl soon becomes the belle of the college and wins the affection of her rival's sweetheart. Stolen Interview: Climbing out of second-story window with a sheet rope, the city girl meets her lover. They quarrel and she decides to get even with country girl rival. The Invitation: Tom receives and accepts invitation to the basketball game. The Basketball Game: During the progress of the game our heroine sprains her ankle, but heroically decides to finish the game. In the meantime, her city rival robs the girls' lockers and lays the blame upon the country lass. The real thief is finally discovered end expelled from the college. The Fire: The college catches fire through the carelessness of the disgraced girl. Soon the entire seminary is on fire. Our heroine, caught in the flames and unable to escape, falls unconscious to the bed. The Rescue: All is excitement; the girls come pouring out of the burning building. Our country girl is missing. Tom to the rescue. Into the building through flame and smoke; he soon returns with his sweetheart in his arms. Back to the Old Home: The country girl returns, a cultured young lady, but realizes that "home hearts are best, after all."
